Peterson's new "Bogies"

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Peterson's new "Bogies"

Anyone tried Peterson's flavor of this classic pick? I wonder how it compares to Sparrows and others. I see they have it in there new .018 thickness, sounds fun.

I have them in both thicknesses. The 18 is cool, but prone to breaking or bending. I don't really use them. I figured I could rake in a false set on a high security restrictive key way but wind up just spping anyway. I rake pretty aggressively. The petersons seem to be way sharper at the peaks when compared to sparrows. I prefer the sparrows and they are what I have in my kit.

Thanks for the information. I have a better understanding should I purchase a new rake.

I have one in the .025" thinkness that was inadvertently sent as part of an order (so I don't know which one it is exactly), I think it is a Bogie #2.
This tool quickly found its way into my standard carry tool kit. With the right bitting it will rip through plenty of low to mid security locks, the ones it doesn't get will usually leave you with a nice false set on something with security pins. As someone with no skill with a traditional 'snake'-style rake I love this tool, even more than my titanium Bogota set.

I only have a small selection of Peterson's .018 and .015 tools but the difference is striking. The blue handled .015 tools were very flexible and the shafts were rather tall for the keyways I worked with, the new .018's (purple handle) seem just as strong as the .025 while still being done in the 'euro' profile. I have only bent or broken the new .018 tools in the same locks that bent even Peterson 0.025 and HPC black-coat spring-steel tools so I have no doubt about their strength.

I have the titanium also, and I really like it but would love to try one with a full handle.

i just bought the "just picks" from peterson in the .018 . i think they're great, i use and enjoy all of them except the "reach". i think it feels really flimsy. but all the others are fine, as long as your not a heavy handed picker..my next purchase will be from peterson probably in their euro section.. a bit thicker would be nice because you do have to be careful with the .018.. just trying to be honest... hope this helps more than confuses.

Yeah that reach looks a little flimsy. I have never tried one but some people swear by them. One of these days I will have some nice purple handles in the mix of colors in my kit. They really might come in handy when .025 is just a little thick and drags and .015 could be on the thin side.

Yeah. I love the blue and purple gems and hooks. Just not as a rake. I also have a purple diamond I would use as a rake because it takes less force.
