Peterson rubber handle dimensions

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Peterson rubber handle dimensions

Postby 1234321 » 9 Nov 2017 9:00

Does anyone have a Peterson rubber handled pick they could grab the dimensions of with calipers for me, preferably in mm? I am curious how much larger they are compared to plastic handles. Thanks

Not to hi-jack this thread, but I would love to know about any feedback interference with these. (If there is any, or if there is less).

I screwed up the previous post. Someone with admin powers should delete that one.

Thickness is 3.6 mm handle width is 12.10 mm length is 79.57mm - a rubber handled 25 thou Peterson Gem. Plastic diamond has 4.10 thickness, plastic reach is 4.0, plastic Gem is 4.05, so this might not be a tightly controlled dimension.

Ok so it looks like rubber is thinner than plastic handle but most likely not tightly controlled. Thanks for your time!

The rubber handled picks have good feedback, but I don't think it is any better than the feedback from plastic ones. the only rubber picks that I have are the thicker "government steel" picks. The steel goes all the way to the end of the handle in the rubber picks, but only a short way into the handle for the plastic handled ones. I think that's why the rubber ones are more - more steel is more expensive.

Fantastic! Thank you for such a detailed response.

I appreciate the insight into the pick construction. Wonderful explanation.
