homemade automatic tension wrench

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

homemade automatic tension wrench

Postby Jarod » 10 Nov 2004 14:25

i have made a automatic tension wrench out of a tension wrench, self tapping screw and a large nut, here are some pictures
shows the wrench end and inside of nut with self tapping screw
http://tinypic.com/kvxmr
shows the screw head with washer to hold the nut on the wrench
http://tinypic.com/kvxo5
to adjust tension simply loosen the screw and move the nut up (less tension) or down (more tension)

i have tested this and think it is a great design, and hope you all can make similar objects, with it you have an extra hand to hold the lock, 2 handed pick, or other stuff too (like drinking a soda)

if it's any consolation, i like the idea ... as a locksmith it's essential to have three hands.

a good way for an hands free tension wrench is to put the tension wrench in the keyway then us one of those mini dent pullers(suction cups) only a few quid on ebay.wrap a elastic band round the tension wrench and putt he dent puller in the right positionon the door/glassthen attach the elastic band to it this gives you just the right amount of tension and thoses anti pick pins arn't aproblem as you rake/pick just spring the wrench with the pressure from the band still on works super with isso's

It looks great so well done and keep up the gd work,
not being critical more ignorant i thought that when
using the tention wrench it helps to feel the movement
inside of the look ie when a pin moves above the shere line,
also as each pin goes, the tention inside the lock decreases
and you have to keep constant pressure by moving the wrench.

complete newbie as you can tell but interested to see how it works?

I had actually thought of a similar idea but yours seem even better... I wasn't able to think of a way to adjust the tension... thanks for the idea of sliding it up and down to change the amount of tension, that's simple and ingenious! good job! I'll try it when I get a bit better at picking / making picks :)
more locks means more fun
