1st of many picks!

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

you opened your house deadbolt with a paper clip and a safety pin?! i'd go shopping for new locks now

well done on your picks though, the only tip i can give is that you shouldnt pick lock you rely on, if you break it you could be in big trouble.

how did you pick the locks, were you raking or picking pin by pin? if you raked its best to learn to pick pin by pin, it can help you learn a lot better and improve your picking. this will be easier to learn when you get your real pickset, but it cant hurt to try can it?

well its actually an apartment... the dead bolt to the deck is keyed on both the inside and out. I was using a raking technique.. I was very suprised at how easy it was. I may try later tonight with the individual pin technique.

1st go and buy a lock or some locks to pratice on.

Do not learn to pick locks on locks that you rely on and you could find yourself stuck if you bugger it up

in a city

In a city you will find that locks are often thrown out, as well as found in the street where they fall off trucks or bicycles. locks without keys are not difficult to come by if you are keeping your eye out.

What does raking mean as in " if you raked it"?

How the heck did you do that? I tried with a paper clip but not a saftey pin but what did you do with the saftey pin or paper clip? Did you staighten the clip or did you....... Ah what did you do..?

Read the MIT Guide.

It might be referred to as 'scrubbing.'
