Alright i thought this would be fun. Doing a poll and you vote, worked or didnt work and later i will tell the amazing answer. Add some fun around here.

This is a cross pick made from nothing more then 5 paperclips. No heat treatment or anything of the sort. Just 5 paperclips and needle nose pliars. I also use an allen wrench. The allen wrench is my little trick i figured out a while back ago to traditionally pick these, so i show you guys now about it, while using a paperclip, haha. But just to say, an allen wrench that fits about 2 or 3mm into the cruciform lock makes an excellent tensioner. Use a slim pick or hook and do the rest. But back on topic.

Does it work? Was I able to open the cruciform lock with nothing more then 5 paperclips, needle nose, and an allen wrench?

I am going to let it run for 3 days so everyone can take a look and vote.

Yes you did do it - I did the same thing by using sweeper two folded sweeper bristles crossed over so they made a cruciform shape.

Raimundo gave me this great idea, just wanted to say thanks, never thought to do so in the past.

I have also done this with windshield wiper blades, and made a design that could open these up pretty easily. Also i made one really easily out of one of those pick up tools, i couldnt find my one that i made, but this is a silly one that didnt work but you get the idea. Same design, but turn each piece 90 degrees. You get the idea though.

But anyway, paperclips is the thing. They are weak and bend alot. Do you think i was really able to open it with such a weak metal?

You didnt open the lock with the paperclips no,

You opened the lock with the wrench, the paperclips merely set the pins which require little excurtion from the paperclips,

So yes you did open the lock with the materials you describe and if you didnt you need to practise more

I remember my first picking experience, twas about two years ago...

I was watching some T.V. special on Houdini (must have been very bored) when the narrator said something about how he studied how locks worked so much that he was able to pick them himself. I hopped on my computer and found [url]=http://home.howstuffworks.com/lock-picking.htm]this[/url] article.

I grabbed a paper clip and a wrench to go play with my locks. I tried picking a sentry safe my parents used to keep old files in. I picked it. In about ten seconds. I wasn't too surprised, as I knew it wasn't the 5-pin locks I was reading about on howstuffworks.

Of course, after that, I ordered my trust PXS-14 from SouthOrd. I went into a fallow period for a while. But now I'm back and thinking about locksmithing as a career![/url]

yeah i think everyone that tried when they were younger used paperclips. I remember when i was really young, and i got my hands on that cookbook, and i read the lockpicking section over and over. Apparently i missed something then and i couldnt get it to work...
