How I made my own Tubular Pick

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

How I made my own Tubular Pick

Postby l0ckp1cker » 1 Apr 2009 14:16

Here's the manual I made last week:

[EDIT Oct-2012: Above link is dead, file has been located and hosted on my server - Squelchtone]
New manual location: http://highsecurityconsulting.com/lp101/How%20To%20Make%20Your%20Own%20Tubular%20Lockpick.pdf

And here's a video of the tubular pick in use:

Hope this helps someone 8)

Very nice indeed, but I noticed that it appears that the space between the lock shaft and the housing where the key actually slips in to seems wider than other tubular locks that I have seen. Is it indeed wider and have you tried this fabrication on other lock/key setups?

I have several tubular locks, varying from reasonably wide like this one, to almost impossible to get even a pick in.
If the spacing is narrow but still allows you to put a pick in (or these split pins), then you can just use longer pins so that only the pins touch the lock.
This will require an additional tension wrench to turn the plug, but it shouldn't be too difficult.
I think on most regular locks you can make a similar setup though, you just might need a different key since this key is pretty fat
Instead of the split pens you could also use staples. These are thinner and just as cheap (cheaper actually) :)

I'm by no means an expert in lock picking, but this is fairly straight forward ;)

Happy to help. :D

If you're ever looking for anything else that used to exist and know the URL head over to Archive.org and enter the URL into the Wayback Machine. You don't always get results but it usually works.
