Newbie's got his first set...

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Nope. I have (hopefully, I'm getting all of the names correct):
1. Half hook
2. Full hook
3. Small diamond
4. Large diamond
5. Single ball
6. Double ball
7. Snake rake
8. W-rake
9. Jagged rake
10. Broken Key extractor
11 & 12. 0.035" x 0.120" Tension wrench (X2)
13. 0.035" x 0.120" Twist tension wrench
14. 0.022" x 0.095" Tension wrench

Mistaken kit

Postby Romstar » 18 May 2004 12:42

That was my mistake. The PXS-14 kit is the one I was thinking of.

Oops,

Yeah I got the PXS. I think the only differences are the full diamond and I got some rubber sleeves. I dont think theyre very comfortable though.

Rubber sleeves

Postby Romstar » 18 May 2004 17:01

Tell me about those sleeves. Preferably in great detail.

I was thinking of using something similar on some of my picks sets. Maybe making them an option or something. I assume that your picks are single layer. IE: they have no handles?

Thanks,

Well my picks are just one peice of metal. The sleeves feel like a hard slick rubber(kinda a plastic feel). You know on a pliers, they look just like those grips. The sleeves can also adjust shape pretty well because when I first got them I thought there is no way I can fit that onto the pick. And sure enough it molded to the shape pretty good. One problem with them is that I can slide the sleeve onto the pick with an inch to go but it wont slide up any further.

Hope that helps :)

Putting on pick sleeves

Postby Romstar » 18 May 2004 19:30

I'm told that if you spray the sleeve with hair spray inside, and then immediately put it on it will go all the way.

In addition, it will act like a glue when it dries.

At least, that's what I am told.

Just for giggles I made a short video (330 K) of my pathetic "half diamond" working succesfully on the rear entrance deadbolt

Movie didnt work (d/l but didnt play: error)

compressed with divx 5, I'll see if I can get around to re-encoding it if that's no good for people.
