criminalhate's Homebrew Picks (Big Pic's Dialup stay out)

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Make sure it's solid core wire and it should stay in place for you.

I actually had to go with a different wire method because I ran out of big enough heat shrink, but I got my green. :) I would have posted a photo link for you to see, but I wasn't sure it was proper ettiquette. [/url]

Cool. Some people can be cranky, and I just didn't want to offend.
Here it is. I used some soft craft wood under the heatshrink so the wire would press into it and not slide. Then wrapped it to tight on the first pass, so it still isn't 100% uniform :? Hopefully I'll have some ToolyMcgee originals up soon that you can ripp off.

Now throw a layer of shrink tubing over it and it will stay were you want it to =)

Not for sale as of yet but there may be some for sale eventually. I already have to make a set for the GF with some pink shrink wrap. After that I may make a set I will sell.

Don't need heat shrink on top. I used soft pine to build up the handle, sanded round so the tang was exposed, heat shrink, then tightly wrapped the wire. It is pressed into the wood. Otherwise I would have fixed that wandering coil. Even if I did need the shrink, I need the green more. :) Thanks for advice though.

Like most pick making I do it was accidental. I tried something new, but I didn't like the contrast of the unfinished wood and polished metal. Once I saw how soft the wood was I just covered it in heat shrink and went green. Wood's so easy to shape and nice change of pace from metal working. You should check it out. As soon as I get my hands on some good hardwood whittlin' chunks I am.

I love the little bit cut into the hook with a round file... I saw that in LN21's thread... and wanted to do it myself >=D
Haven't tried yet... but why is it done? for looks or functionality?

I do it for looks but I also believe it will relieve some of the stress on the pick. Plus it's a good gauge to let me know if I'm thinning the pick out to much.
