I am quite surprised your Bahco material is snapping. Maybe they aren't the Bahco Sandflex-BiMetal-Shatterproof version I make mine out of. Those do not break. Ever. At first, I tried snapping one blade in half, so that I would grind the two halves into picks, and it didn't snap... Just folded over. I believe these blades have separate layers of HSS and carbon steel for a balance between hardness, wear resistance and elasticity.
You can bend or deform picks made out of them but the force needed to do it shouldn't be used while picking in the first place.
By the way, good going being able to pick spools within a few weeks of starting to pick. It took me a couple of months to be able to pick them consistently.
