Peterson Tools

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

I just again today ordered some .018 Euro picks for my collection of Peterson tools.

On the 21st of last month I ordered about $200 worth of stuff from Peterson. Ken took my order and said they were swamped that day and he would enter in the order the next day. Still have not received it, however I have been charged for it. Some of the items were out of stock when I ordered so I figured that was the delay. I called up today to see what was going on. My order was in the system but must have got lost in translation because all the items are back in stock and they had no idea my order had not been put together and shipped. They said that they were going through a transition with staff leaving and a new system of managing stock. Thankfully I do not need the things I ordered right this second, although I want them now lol. All in all they make fantastic tools and within a few minutes everything was straightened out so It's worth the hassle.

Yes, Ken is a great guy to work with, very honest and straight to the point. I have had very pleasant dealings with his company and adore his products. I know he is looking for articles for his Bi-Monthly magazine, I would love to write for him but like yourself I am a noob and the Locksmith trade and am a little busy trying to soak up everything I can.

There really should be a twelve step program for gear junkies.

If you find my insistence that you pay me to do something unreasonable, you probably shouldn't be bothering me at work.

The saddest part is, I didn't need them, I just wanted to try them. Please tell me I'm not the only one that falls victim to this.

Certainly not the only one. Heck, if everybody had one lesson, with a Master No. 3, then would venture to guess that 60% of the population would be hobby pickers.

Update: my Peterson bogies came in and they are awesome. Still fighting the urge to run them in my unpickable (at least to me) Schlage deadbolt on my front door. Must. Remain. Strong.

When I get that urge I end up buying copies of the lock to pick, just in case. That might explain why I have all of these mailbox locks now.

More on topic though, I think Peterson's 0.025 and 0.018 tools are fantastic. Most sit in a spare case from my first Pheonix GSP set but a pair of Hook 1's and half diamonds (one each in 0.025 and 0.018) and a 0.025 Bogie go everywhere with me in an Eagle Series case with a selection of tension tools mostly Peterson Pry-Bars and the Flat5s.
It is not as sleek as my 'Formal Dress' kit but it has never failed me in an emergency or as a party trick.
