Pick Handle Ideas?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

It is possible to find a type of clay in craft shops, that are soft. You make the shape, after you put it in the oven for 20-30 min. and it hardens up. Becomes as strong as hard plastic. Perhaps mot the most ideal, but it is possible to create a thicker handle with it.

I remembered what is it called.

It is a brand called: Fimo.

Here are some pointers on how it works.

I make handles similar looking to Kerpeesh picks. I used multiple layers of shrink tube. I put a small size on, shrink it, another layer, shrink it. I keep going with layers and sizes until the pick handle is the size I want it to be.

I have two picks (both Sparrows) that I made my own handles for. One is a variation on the wire handle in the sticky post on this forum. I didn't want to cut into the pick (translation: I was being lazy and didn't want to dig out my dremel) so I did things a little differently. The other I 3d printed a handle for. Of the two I greatly prefer the wire handle. That might be because I used someone else's model for the 3d printed one (again, being lazy - it's much easier to download a file from Thingiverse than take measurements and then use them to make a 3d model that'll fit your pick) and it came out way thicker than I like my handles to be. Next time I 3d print one I'll make my own model.

I used a clay in the past that hardens up really well. It's more of a plastic feel when it's finished up.

Sculpey is what it's called. It's a polymer of some sort, and you bake it to harden. Really good stuff. I made a bust out of it when I was in high school and it's still around...somewhere...
