My newest picks

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

I'll try to get something written up soon so it's all in one post and easier to read, but till then - here are the missing pictures:

Sanding the sides down even to the pick shaft, and then rounding them off:

Take it apart, put it back together without the pick:

Round it off:

Countersink:

Ready to rivet:

Buck the rivets:

I just used a hammer & anvil.

From here, you just have to finish sanding the sides down till you get to the pick all the way around, then round off the corners. Sand the rivets flush too.

Thanks for the pictures Josh66, now the process is 100% clear in my mind.
I'm not saying your description was not clear. It's just easier for me to memorize picture than text.

Thanks :)

No problem guys!

Today or tomorrow I should be done writing it all up. Trying to get it where everything is all in one post, then questions can follow. Right now, the 'how-to' parts are spread across 3 pages - not exactly clear and concise, lol.

I may make a PDF of it too (wouldn't really be any extra work)...

I haven't updated this thread in a while - I've made a couple picks since then...

My newest one:

I made that specifically for the finger pins on an ASSA Twin:

A double ended Ti pick:

It's .040" thick, and then I sanded the pick ends down to .020". The handle is rigid, the pick ends are flexible.

Detail of the ends:

And my new favorite pick:

Excellent work, Josh66. That last one is really beautiful.
