When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

If we're referring to the same pick -- and you're right, it does sort of look like a tulip -- I think it's for medecos, but no guarantee on that.

CitySpider,
If by Medeco you mean Mul-T-Lock, then yes.

thedtenaciously, how do those sliding pick things treat ya? are they easy to use? It would be good if everyone could give a short review on their picks, save all the questions. How do those rippled handles go, they comfortable?

Nope. There're two in that set that're very obviously for mul-t-locks, and then there's a funky looking hook that, at least to me, seems like it'd be good for rotating Medeco pins.
You got a set in front of you? If so, I'm talking about number five. The MTLs are six and seven.
I might be wrong, this isn't even secondhand knowledge, it's purely speculation. It might just be a funky looking hook.

I also thought that the #5 pick would be good for medeco locks. I figured that the notch cut in the face of the hook would allow rotation of the pins but, the pick is far too wide to fit in any of the medeco locks that I have.

And once again, as always, firsthand knowledge wins.
Thanks for the quick lesson, Sal.

I really like the sliding pocket picks, i especially like the included extractor/tension wrench. And the ripple handles are ok, not as sturdy as solid reinforced ones though.
btw: i orderd them from http://lockpicktools.com
here are the kinds of handles you can choose from....

CitySpider, I wouldn't entirely rule out the possibility of a pick with such design working well for medeco locks. All that I am saying is that the #5 pick is too wide for the medecos that I own, this might not be the case for all medecos.
