What about cases?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

ha ha, no! i didnt even think about it sounding like that, lol. Im the warehouse supervisor at a hospice thrift store and we have an army of awesome old ladies that volunteer. It was one of these ladies that crafted this for me.

Of course I was kidding, but the thought of someone in hospice still picking locks was
oddly uplifting (no pun intended). :o

I have my most used picks in a small box, so I always have to dig through them to look for the one I need. Since I inherited this small old suitcase, I decided to use it to store and organize my picks. I made a prototype with two pieces of cardboard. I cut some slots to accommodate the handles and glued them together. I plan to try it for some time and see if it works.
I need a rubber band to keep the picks in place but you got the idea.
Still don't know what material should I use for the final product. And have to figure out another panel to hold the wrenches. Suggestions are welcome.

Cheers :)

Very nice pick case! That looks very professional compared to any scroll.

I´m loving magnets so I suggest them to you too. I inlayed two for each pick in my pick box, this way it doesn´t scratch and looks cool in finished product. And keeps picks in place.

Thanks. I saw your case, very cool!
So you just drill a small hole and glue the magnet in place? Looks a lot better than the rubber band I was thinking about.
I may use magnets for the wrenches. I'll check if it's able to attract the steel bristle inside my Gillette plastic handles.

Cheers :)

I think you need too much magnetism to get through your Gillette handle. I inlayed mine to grab the shaft, there is only about 1mm of wood between to make sure picks stay in place. And those magnet´s pulling force were about 0,9kg each.

Didn't thought about that, I'll check if a strong magnet under the shaft is enough to keep the pick in place. I guess so, since these picks are very light.

Thanks :)

I use a black Condor T&T Pouch. I'd been looking at this pouch for a long time because it would fit in the outside flap of my laptop bag. I was drawn to it because of all of the little elastic hold downs for different sized tools. I saw some pictures of someone using it for lockpicking stuff so I searched amazon and it was only $17 with amazon prime free shipping. Three weeks later it's now $24 so I'm even happier with my purchase. I had only seen it for sale originally on airsoft sites so I doubted it's construction. It is solid and I can fit all of my small stuff in there and it's only about 2/3rds full. On the left side there is a zippered pouch that holds all of the stuff off to the far left. I usually also have some small vise grips, adjustable wrench, and a medium sized pocket knife. On the right side I saved space for some stuff I still want/need/desire. Plug spinner, raimundo style snapper, double sided bogota, and some more tension wrenches. I also have room for jigglers and bump keys if/when I decide to get some.

The coolest feature of this pouch is the paracord. If you had it attached to molle webbing on a tactical vest you can set it up so it only opens 90 degrees so you can use your tools directly from it. I'm going to remove the paracord because I keep getting it caught in the zipper. It works okay as a stand but I prefer it to be laid out flat.

This case was made for an e-cigarette, but a little shorter version can hold a pickset as well.
(This is about making the case, not what it's used for)
First I cut an old leather belt into 2 pieces and sewed a velcro and a belt clip on them:

Image

The leather strips are about 3.5mm thick, so I drilled 1mm holes into them and sewed them together on one side only:

Image

After putting it into water the leather became soft and I formed it using a steel rod. When dry again, I drilled & sewed the other side. Then I watered it again and formed / drilled / sewed the round bottom. After drying, the leather case will keep its shape:

Image

The stitching on the flap isn't for decorative purposes only, it also fixes the 2nd part of the velcro:

Image

After smoothing the edges with sandpaper I applied some shoe polish to make them black again:

Done. Took me about 6..7 hours incl. planning and I didn't use any special tools except a drill.
Originally I posted this images on a vapers forum but I hope you may find them interesting, too.

@zeepia: I absolutely like your magnets. Maybe I'll do something similar. ;)

I feel a bit uncomfortable posting since I still haven't quite gotten a handle on what is considered necroposting, but there are plenty of really nice cases pictured here.. Inspired me to begin construction on one of my own, though my camera is down and out for the count... Interim I'm still using the one that came with my southord 5piece, though it's certainly too bendy and small to be useful much longer
If it works, it ain't wrong! -GWiens2001

That serepick case is awesome. Im sick of my small southord leather pouch. Its become a pain to pick out a tension wrench cause i have to dump them all out since they are shorter than the case itself. I have narrowed down my case selection to the serepick or sparrows. Now to decide

There is some great innovation going on this site. So glad i found it this is my new favorite forum. The magnetic case is awesome, i have a bunch of magnets laying around not a bad idea.

This is a pocket set using a 1 AA proton pro flashlight case. I have several sets of varying sizes.
Often worn on a paracord neck lanyard or in my pocket when I was not on the job but wanted some tools handy, though it has a belt loop also.

This case is small , 1 inch wide x 4 1/4 inch long and the picks were made to fit (4 1/4 inch) in so the top will not allow any tool loss when closed like some fold over cases do, and I just like smaller handles.

I made these tools, except the warded keys, from windshield springs and they were quick and dirty so be
forgive my workmanship please, I can do better.

The tension tools are in a half size fingernail file holder which slips in the pouch to keep them separate.
Anyway the focus here is the improv case .
