Wish I had seen this thread sooner! Already picked up something different and a few locks from the store to learn on. Don't know the price, but this would have surely saved me some money.

Product looks great, and I don't often see everyone so happy with a purchase in this consistency. I'll be ordering one in the future for sure.

I received this lock around Christmas and have been very satisfied since.

I was looking for a fun mechanical toy to have on my desk as a distraction, which turned out to be something very hard to find since I already had the popular brain teasers and rubik cubes. After searching for a while I came across this practice lock under some mechanics related keyword. I did some research and realized this is my best option for learning lockpicking and a great toy so I ordered the lock. The shipping was very quick and everything was packaged well with nice documentation and high quality shiny parts.

It took me a while but I am already able to pick 7 pins w/ security pins. I first started picking it with paper clip picks, then my cheap Chinese pick set arrived and I felt unstoppable with them after learning how to pick up to 5 pins with an easily bendable paper clip that was curved at all points. Currently I am working on my own proper homemade set with nice handles and everything.

Anyways, thank you MrWizard. If it wasn't for this set I probably wouldn't have bothered going to my local locksmith/ordering from ebay to get one-time use locks and would have never picked up this hobby.

I highly recommend this lock for anyone interested in learning, it really got me hooked .

Got my practice lock over the weekend, and have been practicing a lot since. Communication went smooth, and Mr.Wizard was quick to respond to my many questions. The Keyway is pretty tricky for me as a beginner, but I love a challenge.

Everything came very well packaged with detailed instructions that were easy to follow. I actually wasn't even expecting a key, but there were two included. All the included pins gives you enough variation to suite any level of frustration you would like to pursue.

I'm currently sticking with the standard 6 pin setup until I get it down faster. Everything was well made, down to the key.

Prior to this I was practicing on cheap Chinese locks, that were very tricky to pick. Not from a spp standpoint, but actually from it feeling very gritty and cheap even though it was new, almost all pins would bind even with light tension. One of which has something rattling around in it, I haven't been able to get it out. As soon as I tried the Supermax, I immediately noticed a significant difference in feedback, smoothness, etc. I did remove the pins initially to see what was inside. Set screw up top made that very easy. The included allen wrench was also much appreciated- I regularly lose or break the small ones.

A small note about these, which I very much like. Mr.Wizard from what I can tell goes out of his way to make sure all parts are U.S. made. Not a huge deal to some, but it feels kind of nice to have a key and lock with "USA" stamped on it.

I will be playing with this quite a bit for the next few weeks, until I can post a good detailed review and share my honest thoughts after some time with it.

Thanks for offering a great product Mr.Wizard! I want some more when I got the monies. :D

Got the lock a few weeks ago ( sent to Australia).
It's very well made. I can't imagine how it could be improved.
Richard's really helpful before and ( more importantly) after he's sold you the lock.
Recommended it to a mate who bought one too.

I got my practice lock from MrWizard today. I have to say I have not been so excited about opening a piece of mail in a long time. After I got it open I could tell MrWizard put a lot of thought and care into constructing this kit, which is really reflected in the amount of satisfied customers he has in this thread. As a person who is new to lockpicking, this lock is going to be an amazing practice lock. I would not hesitate to buy another, as a gift for a friend or family member.

bought mine a while ago, used for this time so i can assure is a valid product and also enjoiable !
it's well made. the selection of pins assures endless variations and the mechanic is smooth. The seller is very gentle and helpful, even after the sell. i agree with other newbies above, the keyway is a little Tricky but we asked for a challenge lock not for "a self opening lock" ! :-)
Excellent package and istructions.
i'm often away from home and this went into my little portable kit to continue practicing and also passing time !

Thanks MrWizard !

I want to say that I've had my practice lock made by Mr. Wizard for over four years and it is still the best practice lock I have ever used, and I have had a few. I have also used it to help myself and others understand master keying. I have put a lot of time into practice picking with it and have no problem picking Schlage locks in the field now largely due to this little package Mr. Wizard sells. Just wanted to say thanks again Mr. W!

I have owned Mr. Wizard's 7 pin practice lock for quite some time and it is AWSOME! I just wanted to interject that if you guys get bored with picking it, give impressioning it a try. The lock produces good marks for impressioning an SC1 or SC4 key. Just buy the blanks and take out the 7th pin stack for SC4, or 7th and 6th stack for SC1.

Thanks again Mr. Wizard

I am still making my lock made in USA available for all those that want the most complete kit available. You can get cheaper ones with small incomplete pin sets and imported cylinders with sloppy tolerences not marked where they are made. All of mine are clearly stamped made in USA while they can still be found. Mine has complete set of proper size pins for all 7 pin cells so every possible combination can be achieved including master pins for those that want to learn how to master key. My lock comes already keyed with working keys for those that are very new to the hobby so you have a completed lock ready to go right out of the box and can see the way it should be keyed up. Has complete 5 page illustrated instructions to get you started off the right way without having to guess about anything. Plus I am always available if you need any help after you own it. There are copy cats out there trying to confuse you so don't be fooled with adversary ripp offs. Super Max is the original 7 pin Schlage keyway practice lock that has the best complete kit available with the best after sales comitment to help you if you need it. I want to thank all of you that have purchased my semi famous practice lock over the last 5 years and hope to be able to continue offering the most complete kit out there. Please send me PM if interested or have any questions.

Just bought one for son-in-law - he expressed an interest after seeing me at work.
(I also keep a residential schlage on my desk)

I have a smile blossoming as I can bet he'll enjoy it a lot.

There seem to be two locks in the 7 pin category. The other one is more expensive. I also would rather support "made in America."

I'll update after I gift him with it.
