Here are my latest and kind of a follow up of the molds. The top hook is from the earlier pics after I sanded and dipped in plasti dip. It was made from small wiper insert. The next two's handles were made the same way with the exception of the pick material. Someone brought me about 40 flat 12" pieces that were found in I believe file folders,or filing cabinets. They are around .020. And I decided to do them all by hand filing (which was stupid). The handle for the bottom one I made from stainless steel strips I found on ebay for $1 each 12"×.5" &0.025. All I had to do was cut them to length and round the edges. I can definitely say feedback on a full handle especially a metal one is far superior to what I get with the wiper inserts.here is how I kept the metal together for gluing I used a neo magnet to hold it together instead of clamping and possibly crimping the metal. This worked great. I have been on the thrifty path lately I'm moving so my shop tools aren't easy to access.point is with a few decent files some cheap material you can make decent picks that are as effective as nearly anything you can buy. It costed me about $2 to make all 4 picks.

Two of my most recent experiments:
Electronics board set in clear resin. The wood is silky oak. Run out of feeler gauge so the pick is windshield wiper. Need to get better pics, it really does look quite special. Had a bunch of small problems getting this together, next ones hopefully will be perfect.

I think the electronics board doesn't match well with wood, but this is all about aesthetics and NOT about your skills. I'm sure you can embed everything in resin. Maybe you want to open an extra thread on how you do it?
I liked all your wooden handles so far, especially the redwood/walnut handles and the one with the inlays which is just amazing.

I'm not sure if this is where I should post this but I didn't want to start a new thread to see what people think. This is my first wooden Handle for one of my homemade picks. It's a wiper insert and the handle is made from oak. I'll probably stain it espresso eventually. I'm looking forward to getting some feed or maybe some tips. Thanks!

I see two very well made picks in this page, my compliments guys.

I can't help to say two things, don't be offended and take them as constructive criticism.

Bogotas are not intended to have a handle like that. I also made one with a full handle and it doesn't work like the ones with the proper handle that raimundo invented.

The original bogota is definitely thinner than the one made by Daltonj21 and a little thinner than the all wooden one made by mjwhit.

That said, it's nice to see people enjoying pick making and bringing it to such a high level.

Thanks! I can see why they would work differently. It's very rarely rake anything, if I do its with a diamond. This was me experimenting and testing the waters.

That's good to know about the handle and thickness of it. I didn't think it would matter since the bottom doesn't touch the pins.

I've seen a lot people say good things about his bogatas but I've never seen one in person. Im completely clueless to the whole spring and safety pin...

If I would have seen the previous posts I wouldn't have posted this here. Lol That inlay is sick.

Looks like the handles are made of fine wood and take some time to make nice. I am assuming after the pic beaks, that a new metal piece is reattached to the handle.

Sure would like to see some of these for sale.

I am going to the Lock Show in Harrisburg middle of July 2016....does anyone have a table there selling these home made pick?

Here is a pick I made specifically for picking the side pins on Schlage Primus locks. This thing works perfect. You use the pick just how its pictured going in over top of the piece that sticks out the side of the finger pins. There is a very small divot in the front and the back of the tip that is used to either push in and up to set the pin or pull back and up to set the pin. Easier than trying to go from the side and doing it.



The pick was originally a small half diamond from the Southord Euro slimline set.

This was my first home brew pick, and the first lock picked with a home brew.

This was the only other home brew pick I made. I took the spacings on one side of the rake from a 5 pin euro, and the spacings on the other side of the rake from a 6 pin euro. I called it the 6/5 special.

Well I'll give it a 5/7 perfect. (If anyone gets that) the handle is great looking. Pretty nifty bud.
