ratyoke's picks

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

You know, those wooden ones deserve to be seen over at Maker zine et.c they are most definately "steampunk" - Can't you just visualise them being used by a villain in a Sherlock Holmes' novel for example?

They look like the typical lovely detailed work of the Victorian or Edwardian era engineers.

I don't know what Maker is. That's cool if they look steampunk, though that wasn't what I intended. I only just found out recently what steampunk is.

You might like them then? Their website is:

http://www.makezine.com/

and their steampunk search is:

http://www.google.com/cse?cx=008032414425079535247%3Akplxrakvu20&q=steampunk&sa=Search

Unfortunately their lockpicking stuff isn't too good, but you might like their other stuff. I get the blog newsletter emailed each day and it's often full of really impressive stuff.

Seriously Ratyoke, I think they would be wonderful on Make Zine, their lockpicking stuff needs improving a bit and they are really on a bit of a steampunk kick at the moment. If you could submit some of your photos (read some of their blogs and get a feel for the sort of pictures they like), then submit yours. I don't think they pay, it's just International kudos, but it would be cool to suddenly see pictures of them in the newsletter they email daily to people from their blog!

I think that if ratyoke had a tool made up to punch out the basic profile of the pick and organized an industrial process for polishing them, such as must be used in making sewing needles, though I don't know the process, he could then build a pantograph such as the type that used to make wooden airplane propellers, he could create a very coveted high end line of picks that would rival the falle stuff

one die with the three or four basic profiles, hooks diamonds etc so that every strike of the die would produce 3-4 pick shapes etc,

Hes definatly on the high end of the market, his stuff is rightly coveted.

That's high praise indeed comming from you Raimundo!

I propose a "dream team" - One of your original Bogota blades in Ratyoke's handles... it would be the locksmithing ultimate handtool! My only criticism might be that I couldn't afford such a illustrious instrument...

not to divert from a very good thread, but when you guys said steampunk, I immediately thought of my favorite poster ever!

and I will be ordering the wood handled pick next week. That is if Ratyoke is making any more. It's so exquisite.

I got some new wood recently and was busy making picks over the weekend. This one is holly. It is one of my favorites so far. I am probably going to make a matching bogota in black ebony.

I think there should be a place at the top of the index page where one photo can be posted by ratyoke, tooly or kaotic and that would be left there until one of them posts a new photo of recent work, It could cause competition among them
