New Tension Tool

I've come up with something brilliant! Ok, get some wiper blade inserts, make a tension wrench, but drill a small hole at the bottom of the handle. When the wrench is positioned in the keyway, hang various weights from the wrench. this will allow you to pick with both hands, and its more convenient.

Not original, unforynately I'm afriad. HPC make this tool already.

I experimented with this by doing something similar to what you suggested, and hung fishing weights to it.. it worked ok for locks without security pins, but filed spectacularly when I tried to beat spools, and mushrooms.

It lost me the feedback I get from the tension wrench, and since I et little from my pick this mant about 80%.

I'm not putting it down, but I don't have much nice to say about the weited tension idea.

I realy don't see any advantage on that. I think that if I used that technic I would have one hand 'hanging around' without doing nothing...what's the point? What about if I needed to beat mushroms or serrated pins (like illusion said)? I rather feel everything that I'm doing to the lock. But it's a nice idea if you're only wish is to open the lock.

Well, for anyone who has only one hand, it's one of the only ways they'd be able to pick the lock. Other than that, it's not all that useful.

If all you're doing is messing with locks without security pins (like me, because I'm a noob), then ask yourself this:

would you rather be holding a tension wrench, or a nice, cold, refreshing beer? LOL

But seriously, I now realize that it's not that practical.

While this might help you pick non-security pinned locks, don't do it! You will never learn proper tension control or feedback if you do. Its really a no win situation.

I know how to use a tension wrench normally! I just happened to think of this while I was asleep, and I wanted to see if it would work. I agree that this is a poor substitute for using the tension wrench as it was originally used.

the rubber band/thumbtack method works well too, but it still lacks the feeback, and control you need for more secure locks
