When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

New home made picks

Postby ekips » 9 May 2006 21:18

Had a few hours spare today and the weather was nice so I made a few new picks

Be glad of any C & C to help me improve

On another note, still on the look out for new locks to pick, any advice on where to get them from?

I've been asking friends and family but not getting anything.

Anyway, happy picking

Looks better than most of mine.

I was wondering if you started with hacksaw blades and if that is heat shrink tubbing on the handles? I like the first rake with the black handle. Some of the other rakes seem to have some strange cuts and spacing but I have a rake that is wierder than any of those and it opens a lot master padlock in one swipe. The diamonds look great and the hooks look good.
I would add a round pick or ball pick and a few different shaped hooks and you would have nice full set. I know its hard to measure but how thin are those picks?

Hi CVScam,

Thanks for the reply, yes its standard hacksaw blades to start with, I use a bench grinder and a dremil and then heatshrink the handles.

The picks are 0.4mm thick and the shafts are aprox 2.2mm wide.

I dont have much luck with making the ball picks :( But I keep trying

I love your sig... makes me laugh whenever I read it. :)

The picks are fine, and you have a range of shapes to play with. Try smooting your picks with some wet&dry sand paper.

I like the heat shrink handles, must get some of that stuff! :)

Hmm... do they work well?

I posted a template of the Southord picks in an older thread scaled against squared grid paper.

Cheers.

Ahh heck i like um and that sig. is great.... i'm dumb my hand was on the mouse, although a little sanding and you have dremel? perhaps a bit of polishing and they'll be great, i like the color coded shink that oyu used very nice, and if they dont work right just make some minor adjustments, when ever i make picks i tend to touch them up and few times, mostly my rakes, and the ball picks are nightmares, i went as far as to trace the ball from my SO pick the grind away, then hand filed one for about a hlaf hour and still didnt turn out good, good pick though
