Watch Pyro's video on pick making. You'll find it if you hunt around here. In the mean time, click on my sig image and get reading.
Good luck!

Remember people, we were all noobs once upon a time and needed some help and pointers from friendly people like us!
My suggestion:
Go to any pick retailers website and look at the pictures of their professional picks to get the basic idea for the pick shapes, for instance, here is a link to Southern Ordnance's (SouthOrd) website:
http://www.southord.com/catalog.asp?cat=locksmith
I linked directly to their catalog of lockpicking tools.
This should be more than enough info to get you started on the right track.

Ok sorry bud heres a quickie link, I'm not quite socialble til about 10 am. and 3 cups of joe....
http://peterson-international.com/indiv ... tailed.htm
There you go close ups and the whole deal... also try the hybrids there cool.... easieast to make when starting is the diamond, make a snake, then a diamond, them will some balls make a double or triple ball.. there fun to get perfect
Hacksaw blades are fun to use, but go to a junk yard with some snips and slip the dipsticks off the soon to be smashed cars.. only get the thin ones, these are better than SO's with flexibility, they heat up slower thus normal quenching garrentees a perfect temperpicked pick, less junk to grind off, then round the handle edge for cumfort sand with some rough to fine grit emory paper (the black stuff) and to get a great finish spray some WD40 or any other lube...not KY and you should be set post some picks.
Sorry for the arrogant post hope this helps good luck buddy and welcome If you need any help PM me i will help.. or PM ray, he's our resident master when it comes to getting picks that slide like butter

Heh, I never thought of dipsticks, and I'm a mechanic!! A bit more metal to work with than wiper inserts too. I'll have to try that out! Good idea LockNewbie21!
I've also read a lot of positive things about drain snakes here lately, but haven't tried that either. I love it when people get creative!

Hmm... so what about your age?
Picks:
You go to a local hardware shop.
You ask them if they sell hacksaw blades.
You EITER:
1: Buy a Dremel tool (more expensive)
2: Buy a set of 'needle files'
You find some templates on this site by using the pretty little search button.
You copy the shape of the template onto the hacksaw blades.
You now visit this link if you are using a Dremel: http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?t=10527
You shape the hacksaw blade into a pick.
Tension wrenches:
Look around for old windscreen wiper blades that are no-longer needed. Look on the back of the rubber wiper ppart, and you'll find one or more thin strips of stainless steel. Bend this to a 90 degree angle. Done.
Get a nail. Bend the end of the nail overto a right angle. File the edges of the nail flat, so when you can insert it into the bottom of the lock and get grip.
There are other solutions, but I'm too tired to chuck them in.

hello I am GSA_DENIED I am a military Locksmith. I noticed someone trying to get some good pick designs. well yur in luck i have a few that you can use I have drawn these out so they are exact size once you print them. Weapon of choice, the Hacksaw blade you can get them in packs of 2-10 and so on which ever you prefer. Take a blade and break into 3 even peices or 2 peices if you want some extra handle space. match up these templates to the T and you will have a few good picks. my favorite is the lady in distress she is the 4th pick down, anyways enjoy.
ok you will have to give me an email if you want these picks i havent quite figured out how to post a pic from my computer
