Quick question about diamonds

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Quick question about diamonds

Postby telekenetix » 18 Nov 2006 13:24

I recently got my first picks (but I only have a diamond and a long hook...I know, I'm gonna get a short or medium hook). I just can't seem to get the hang of picking with a diamond. The problem I'm having is that when I try to pick one pin, all the others get hit as well. I am obviously doing something wrong, I just don't know what. Am I applying my force the wrong way (I'm moving the whole pick in a downwards motion). Should I just try to move the tip?

Click on my www button for a good guide,

You need to often angle and reposition the pick in order to manipulate each pin individually, useing the pick like a pair of forklift truck forks isnt the way to use them, no.

Thank you!!! I think I'm getting it :D
I got 3 pins (out of 5) to click. I know, I should start on something easier....but I haven't gone to the store yet to buy one so I'm practicing on a lock that isn't in use anymore but in a door.

Diamonds are one of the best pick designs going. The problem is you have to learn how to control them.

Obviously, these aren't hooks, so you can't use them the same way.

The upside though is what diamonds let you get under, and the way they let you feel pins.

The more you work with them, the better you get.

Yea, I definitely am getting the feel for the diamond. And it really is amazing. You can run it across the pins so easily and stop on each one. I definitely have something going on in this lock

Try not to use it as a rake, but instead learn to manipulate the tip while keeping the shaft off the bottom of the other pins.

Yea, that's what I'm working on. I'm not very interested in raking since I haven't mastered SPP yet. I'm starting to get the angling correct in order to manipulate a just one pin at a time. I just need more practice I guess :)

I am going to suggest using it at an angle. I Bent my first half diamond :(
I am running experiments with "weighted" picks so give me a little while to take pictures and post my findings.
