files question

so i'm having issues determing exactly what different file #s mean.

i've a set of needle files that are #2 swiss cut, and a few others kicking around of various flavours, but is #6 the shape? the size of the teeth? how much does this matter? am i ok with my needle files?

The numbers represent the cut of the files.

#2 is coarser than a #4, and #6 I believe is the finest cut you can get.

The shape is always a name.

Rat-tail is basically a round file, Pipen is a tear drop shape, and the rest are pretty self explanitory.

how fine is #6? the "#2" set of needles looks to be ~1/64" between ridges.

Well, like I said, it goes from 0 to 6, with 0 being coarse and 6 being the finest.

So 0 is coarse, 2 is medium, 4 is fine, and 6 is ulta fine. I would imagine it would be quite close.
