EZ Set put to rest

last night i finnally raked,picked and got the stupid thing open after about 10 minutes of straight picking, i used a SO short hook,rake,a DIY short hook and small and steep diamond picks from hacksaw blades.i had to use,what i would consider,alot of tension to set pipns,but that and the fact i was over setting the pins is probably my biggest issue,. i tried later on to open it but to no avail. ill keep at it,but theres a clearence sale going down for locks so im gonna go buy some more deadbolts to get different feels. thanks for your help,i doubt i woulda been able to to it with everyones advice. btw does anyone have tips regarding the max/min tension amounts needed?

A cheap lock like an EZ set usually shouldn't need a whole lot of tension to help get it open. As you type your messages here, notice how much pressure you apply to each key on your keyboard. That is about the same amount of pressure you should be placing on your tension wrench. Anything more in most cases will make the pin stacks to bind up too much and cause your pick tools to start bending and eventually break. I've heard rumors that a lot of stainless steel picks made by SO have the tendency to bend quite easily.
