When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Very nice, I've got the half hook and half diamond HPC lock picks. How are you liking them compared to your southord?
If practice makes perfect and no one is perfect then why practice?

I find them supirior, HPC take alot more care when manufacturing their picks. Spring steel is actually flexable as oppose to south ord.... I like their diamond, i just have to get used to it a bit more to love it! Also i think rivets are better than spot welding.... In short southord is just sloppy when they manufacture their tools, im pissed i brought such a big kit from them, i might think of selling but i doubt i will. So yeah HPC rocks man

Luke I'm sorry but it had to be done,
"Spring steel is actually flexible as oppose to Southord.... "
The only picks that I use anymore are my Petersons and my navigator set. At one point I said that if I could only own one set it would be the Petersons but, I am starting to use my navigator set a lot more. The only reason that it gets used more is because all of the picks in that set are stiffer than any other picks I have ever come across. When I am picking a lock with security pins I want the absolute stiffest pick that will fit in the keyway because I lose a good amount of feeling when I use a pick that flexes too much (Rytans).
"Also i think rivets are better than spot welding...."
I know this is just your opinion but think about it, joining two sheets of metal with metal so that it becomes one part or drilling a hole and sticking in a rivet.
"In short Southord is just sloppy when they manufacture their tools"
I have a set of Southords but I don't use them, not because they are low quality or anything its just that I like picks with big plastic handles and the Southords can't do anything my picks with big plastic handles can't. Southords are, in my opinion, the best bang for your buck there is in the lock pick world. All of my Southords have beautiful finishes (I can't find a single blemish) and they are actually smoother straight from the factory than my Petersons were.

To some idiot im going to make more than i brought them for. By the way when i said sloppy, if you look at southord picks u can definately tell they are stamped but the little thin ridge on the side. HPC removes this and i like it.

I did that twice, most successfully selling my 14 piece southord set for £100 GBP.

Does that idiot want to buy any more kit - I've got a barely used electropick for £5000 or if he wants to throw in a decent car I've got a crowbar.
Tell him it's a Ninja/CIA lockpick and assassination tool - especially if you tape it to a .50 cal machine gun!
sledgehammers make excellent back up picks!

I've only had this problem with ONE SouthoOrd pick, and it took -- literally -- less than five seconds to fix it.

That flaw doesnt even effect the use of the south ord tools.... I just find HPC... better, spring steel flexes as oppose to stainless.

Guys,,,,

There is no substiute.
they are the coolest commercial pick, that is all i use apart from my own which i have had cut out from spring stainless. HPC punch out there picks but RYTANS are machined chemically.
they screen on a die and dip them in acid. yes they flex but they can be bent back into shape ( this would indicate poor picking style). bend a HPC and you should throw them away they are F$$KED after bending.

I'll agree. I consider them the top of the line in bought picks. However, if I'm just trying to pick a beat old Kwikset, I usually use something else.

I've got to disagree on the rytans. The material isn't even strong enough to aply pressure to the pins of certain locks without the picks bending. Take a look at the hook in this picture http://www.crypto.com/photos/misc/picks/rytan.html the way that the pick is bent is they way that my rytans bend. The navigator picks are without doubt the best picks that I have used.
