looking for input.....

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

looking for input.....

Greetings to all.

Had an idea last night while I was staring at the ceiling trying to fall asleep.....

Was wondering if it's possible to make a miniature pick set from a set of gas torch cleaning tips......

I figure I should bow to the Kung-Fu of others much wiser than I before I undertake such a bold idea.

would appreciate any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions.

Thanks!!

Why wouldn't it be?

Although perhaps a more pertinent question: why would you?

Well..... the reason why I would want to....

1) it would be an interesting idea to bring to fruition

and

2) it would be a nice tiny package that you could slip into your hip pocket for and emergency

1) Good reason. Worth a try, just because of that.

2) I think you'd be much better off making them from the usual materials, just making them smaller.

Cutting torch file picks

Postby Romstar » 6 May 2004 0:55

Was wondering if it's possible to make a miniature pick set from a set of gas torch cleaning tips......

Okay, I went into the shop, and dug out the cleaner picks for my oxy/accetylene torch. Now, I don't know what you have, but I have a hinged case that looks like it would be a great "package" for a mini pick set. There were only two problems I could see with my torch cleaners.

1. They're bloody thin. I mean really needle thin.
2. They're files, and in addition to being thin, are as abbrasive as sin.

Because mine are files, they are very hard as well. This means that they won't bend very well without using heat. This may work, but it doesn't get rid of the file surface. This could be very damaging to a lock.

I don't normally say no to any idea, just take a look at the thread about Varjeals electric knife pick. However, in this case, unless yours are different from mine, I would recomend that you make normal type tools, just in a much smaller format. It may be possible to make them small enough to fit into a torch file case similar to the one mine are in.

Happy picking,
Romstar

Point taken...... have rethought....... but the case is a cool idea..... prob will try to make something with small picks that will have an integrated tension wrench.

Will keep all posted on my progress.
