Master No. 140DLHAT Problems

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Master No. 140DLHAT Problems

Postby OnoTadaki » 20 Jun 2004 5:40

I just recently bought a Master No. 140DLHAT to use as a practice lock, but I'm having some problems with it. After setting the first binding pin, I'll end up in a situation where the second pin is frozen, and wont move even if I am at minimum torque needed to hold the first pin at the shear line. If I ease up on the tension at all the first pin drops, if I raise the tension it just becomes even harder to lift the second. Can a security pin cause a symptom like this? All information regarding safety pins I've read have mentioned how to determine which pin is a safety pin, but I havn't seen any information about how a false setting low pin effects the other pins. Also, master's site is very unclear about the specifics of this lock. Do any of you know exactly how many safety pins and their type are in this lock? (The search feature yielded a few thousand results) Thank you for the help!

I have a master 140, and it also exhibits this pin "locking" behaviour, sometimes its even the last pin with my pick behind it  I just let the pins drop and start over... So I cant tell you what it is...

I believe (and also someone has dissasembled the 140 on this forum and posted piccies somewhere) that the 140 has 3 spools and 1 regular pin...

Shouldnt be too much trouble with practice tho.... try picking in the order of (starting from back to front 4-1) 3421, thats how I open mine...

Btw I do not believe how many threads have been started about this lock. I really think it is time that we create a thread for each model of lock and then make a nice index to each of them. It is insain having 10 threads on the one model of master padlock. They are not even that special. Just my 2 cents. And yes I am willing to do this if needs be.

Thanks Theros, I'll definately try that out!

I agree Marso. I searched quite a bit for information on this lock, and was reluctant to post this because I knew it had to be out there somewhere. Some organization would work wonders.

Also just a thought, I'm not sure how flexible the forum coding is, but it would be great if there were guidlines for the topic title if your requesting information on a lock, i.e. Manufacturer - Lockname/Model - Topic title, then implement a way to search for topic titles. Something like this would really cut down on doubled topics that everyone really doesn't like.
