I need starter sets for a lockpicking clinic

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

I need starter sets for a lockpicking clinic

Postby hydruh » 9 Apr 2008 9:35

My martial arts group is interested in having a locksport clinic, and I am hosting. There are a number of guys that are puzzle freaks, and they are just fascinated and want to learn, so I am teaching. I am really just a beginner in this hobby, but I was well taught, as was my wife, so we volunteered to host. This might be the start of a Columbus LSI branch!

When I went to DefCon, Deviant had a box of basic picks in little envelopes that he 'leased' for $30 or something, and if you wanted to keep them you could, and if not you could get your deposit back. Good system. I would like to get a similar set of picks for everyone.

My question is - where would be the best place to get an inexpensive set of basic picks? I know that all of the suppliers have a basic set available, but is there a favored/cheaper/better/nicer/well stocked place that I should get them? I'll be looking for about 20 sets.

Thanks in advance.

Here's a site I found last night that seems to be cheaper than other places http://www.defensedevices.com/lock-pick-sets-info.html (DO NOT USE "IDEALCREATIONS.com"... from what I've heard they're kinda crappy!)

Yeah, I have a jackknife, and while I have had good luck with it I understand that most people hate them. They are also WAY outta my price range.

Defense devices looks like a very cool site, but I found the basic 5 at LockPickShop.com for $17 and the best price at defense devices was $20 - gonna go with that unless everyone has a better idea.

My suggestion would be to go with indiviual picks that you "know" well from a company like HPC in 20 lots. They should be about $1.50 each and in bulk even cheaper. You could get 3 picks and a tensioner for each person in an envelope for around $6 or so or $120 for eerything. If they get serious they can expand on the basic package and if not they are out $10 each  You got to cover shipping and time to put it together. LOL

I just ordered a pick gun from them it's supposed to come tomorrow. If it does come tomorrow that will be four days shipping. The deal was to good to pass up :) id normally go with http://www.lockpickshop.com/ though

OK, that's a good plan, but where to buy picks individually? HPC only deals with resellers, and I can't find one that doesn't sell them in sets only, unless I am just missing it. Got a link?

Hmmm... Sorry I am a lockie and I just go through my suppliers. Someone has got to have a site for you though. I will peak around a bit.

Go to www.foleybelsaw.com and request a catalog. They sell individual HPC picks.
