My new set of homebrew picks

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

This should definitely go in the Home Brew Hall of Fame thread in the lockpicks Manual Forum. I just don't know how to put it there.

Anyways, those look nice. Are they working good for you?

My lockpicking skills are still developing.
The picks work great on normal locks and I had some success on security pins, but I'd love to send a couple of sets for FREE for evaluation purposes to experienced pickers.
Care giving them a try ?
Raimundo? Anyone else ?
PM me if you do :-)

Hi

I actually replied to this yesteday, but several of my posts didn't get stuck to the screen, some problem locally or with the site, I guess,

I can see that your picks look well sanded in the photos, well rounded to keep the warding from effectively blocking it.

No need to send them to me.

to test the smoothness of the picks drag the edge of the pick along your thumbnail, it should be absolutely smooth. this way you can find any rough spots.

You may want to enhance the handles, with some kind of additional material. for picking with straight handles, most pickers use the thumb and forefinger to grip the pick just at the end of the pickshaft.

Someone recently showed some here that had a place just there that was wider than the rest of the handle. Actually there is no reason I know of for more of the rest of the handle to be wide, what you have would go back to the web of the thumb and stabilise the pick in the thumbfinger grip.

One very effective technique in picking is to put a fingertip accross the plug/cylinder interface on the front of the lock, this will give tactile feedback that is much finer than any visual feedback, a small pad for the thumb and forefinger would be a good improvement. Do not try welding, the tack welder will probably eat the metal. there are epoxies and other adhesives now that will serve to attach a small pad there,

Your picks are also very nice.

I don't think there is a way to add a post to another thread, DB please correct me if I'm wrong.

I make picks with wipers inserts (see my thread on wiper blades)
viewtopic.php?t=35316
and I use only files.
No dremel, no power tools.
Files and sandpaper. It takes more time but you have the best control possible on every aspect of the process.
