don't need anything too expensive to start out, unless money is no object to you.

Try lockpickshop.com or southord.com good place to start and cheap but good picks. If your just starting buy the 14 piece lockpick set it has everything you need to start.

Well I don't. I have the 14 piece set and I use 3 picks and 2 tension wrenches. So if you want to go with SouthOrd, order separate parts. My advice would be a couple of hooks (different sizes), some diamonds (same), a wrench or 3 of different sizes, and maybe a snake rake. if you want something fancy to carry them in, you can order one of those too if you really want to.

i got the southord 20set 3 weeks ago and so far i m only using 1hook 1 diamond and 2wrenches. the rest is just useless load to carry around
i didnt want to make another order, say, 3 months from now, so i ordered a 20set from the start.

I started with the 5 piece set from SouthOrd (The one with the how-to book), and just kept expanding from there, however, the most common things I use are a Short hook, Diamond rake, and a short twist-flex tension wrench.
