Unpickable padlock?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Unpickable padlock?

Postby Dr. Bint » 8 Aug 2004 13:25

In my cousin's garage, there is a padlock on the large door that slides across to allow cars to enter. It has 2 sets of pins, one set on the top and one set on the bottom, so. Is there a special kind of tension tool you can use you apply torque in the middle of the lock, between the pins, so you can pick each set of pins without it getting in the way?

Thanks for any info.

Times like these I wish we could edit our posts... ignore the ", so" in the middle... it's the remainder of a sentence I removed (or tried to).

Can you post a pic of the lock, namely the keyway? It would be helpful.

Now from what I can gather, you should be able to use a normal tension tool. If you can, take a look at a two-finger tension tool( http://www.lockpicks.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=114 ) it gives you lots of maneuverability in some locks...

Hope this helps....

His house is a 20 minute drive away, and I don't have a camera. Sorry, no pics. The lock has 2 sets of pins, and the key has grooves on either side... sorry I can't detail it properly. :?

are you sure it is pins and not wafers? if it is wafers, it could be a double bitted cam lock... they're not too difficult... In either case... I'd say use a regular wrench in either top of bottom of the keyway, then use a ball or double ball pick to rake... or use a hook to set each side.

Ohh yea.. these can sometimes be helpful,

http://www.lockpicks.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=114

I've made them from the slot covers from the back of a PC, back in the good ole days when PC cases weighed as much as a couple of cinder blocks, they used decent metal in them, not this pot metal crap or what ever it is now that is light yes... but weak.. weak..

anywho... if you can get your grubby mitts on some of the old style removeable covers (the kind held in with a screw) you can use a dremel to grind the correct shape out and viola.. instant 2 fingered wrench... I usually grind the fingers down so that the wrench can lay flat on the face of the lock, and the fingers don't touch the first pin...

good luck..
