HI guys, I just struck gold... I traded a case of beer to a brother of a friend who works at a sweeper repair/rental shop! In return I got 2 half-sweeper heads with worn bristles and a BRAND-NEW wrong-size-so-they-couldn't-use-it half head! AT least 500 virgin bristles! I'd like to set up all the guys who have nylon sweepers in their areas or can't otherwise get them, but I don't want to be a slave making 50 net cents on each envelope either, so I need to find a happy balance.. suggestions? Once I get some cut off at the base, I'll get the diet scale out and figure out how many I can get into each weight class of envelope.
Of course I'll have to join a few more discussions before I can post in the B&S, so I better stop lurking I guess!

Should be 1 ounce per standard envelope. Once you figure it out mark me down for a few ounces for sure. I can't get ahold of these things anywhere.

LOL, how are the mods on buy&selling through discussions instead of the B&S board?
Thanks guys. I'm in Canada so the postal rates will be a little different, but in the same ballpark.
I learned my lesson giving away just-expired epoxy from work to a buch of guys on another board.... I just asked for enough to cover shipping , and I spent 2 whole evenings making labels, packing boxes and going to the post office. I figure I at least wanna make back the cost of the case of Bud I gave him, and then the rest is gravy.

What goes on through PM's is none of the mods concern. That said, I'd like a few when the price is worked out.

Wow, I just realized I can make some pretty handy raw material kits with these. I work in aerospace supply, and I can get the heat-shrink size to make handles for the bristles for under $2/4ft length. Speaking of length, obvioiusly I have to cut these to mail them, so what would be a good size to cut blanks to? I'm pretty sure the shiny new ones could make two standard envelope-sized (8") strips per bristle. Is that plenty?
I'm going to have to find either some really good sidecutters or some really cheap ones I can buy by the dozen. I did a quick estimate on the bristle count and there's about 1000 per head, so....

Crap, edit disappears too fast! I went outside ( I havve to sneak 'em in from the truck. My wife is going to KILL me if she sees me bringing more "junk" into the house ) and measured.. I was quite a bit off. I can get 2 pieces at 6" from each bristle. Is that long enough for everyone?

lets see...
- Code: Select all
FHW = a fair hourly wage T = time required to cut bristles and stuff/label envelope S = actual shipping costs. R = random extra work multiplier somewhere between 1.05 and 1.10 ( 5%-10%)
Determine fair values for above above, Take 1hr / T which will give you number of cut and stuffed envelopes pr hour. which give us EPH Envelopes per hour Take FHW / EPH to give you a fair cost for labour per envelope. Add S And multiply by R and yo have your total So... Actual cost for you to stuff envelope: - Code: Select all
((( 1hr / T ) / EPH ) + S ) * R
( Note, cost of beer not included in the above calculation ... )
Then PM me and let me know how much you want for a bag of em I've got some but I'd love to have some nice new clean ones.
Cheers

test, that's hilarious.. I'm guessing somewhere between $6-9 all in for 15-ish 6" pieces actually. I'll have a more accurate idea when I chop some up in the next couple days and throw them on a diet scale. I found some 6x9 bubble mailers for a reasonable pricer at Office Depot. I promise not to be like that Ebay loser I bought a book from.. he charged me $12 shipping for a new hardcover, and shipped it in a bubble mailer with $3 postage on it.. !

Dollars stores usually have cheap bubble mailers. I get mine 2 for a buck 6x9inches. I think the limit is a pound... but I don't ship from Canada. You might want to look in to picture mailer too, or gutting a bubble mailer to put cardboard inside so the post office jerks don't bend them up to much. Just a thought. Probably better with bubble mailer. You'll have to forgive me, the thought of all those virgins (the good kind) has me giddy.

Ahh.. virgins.. . LOL. I found some decent 6x8 bubble mailers at Office Depot @ 25/$10.99, so I'll probably end up with those... And if I keep it to under 250 grams total, I can ship State-side for under $4 in those.
