Best way to texture heat-shrink handles?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Best way to texture heat-shrink handles?

Postby Clead » 17 Aug 2008 19:35

Hi guys, I've been playing around with some 2:1 Raychem heatshrink that I have an unlimited amount of :D , and I was wondering what you guys use under the tubing to get a better grip. It looks like some guys are wrapping wire underneath for a spiral grip.. what gauge of wire works best?
Any ideas are appreciated, and this will be a handy thread for anyone getting sweeper bristles from me because I'll be packing every envelope with these 1" pieces of Raychem 1/8 2:1. :D

I actually use a thin steel craft wire. I think it is used to bind silk flowers together in bouquets. Any wire will pretty much work. I just use the steel because it lets me wind the handles tighter without breaking.

So, I checked the gauge on the craft wire. 22...

Somehow I am not surprised.
