what happends when you pick a lock the wrong way does it reset its self or do you have to reset it

Think of how a lock works when you put a key in it. Picking a lock the "wrong way" is essentilly locking the door. you can just turn your tension wrench so that it will move back to the normal position, sometimes plugs are spring loaded and will automaticaly do it.

You might also be asking that if your picking a lock and don't succeed it turning the plug at all do you have to re-set the pins? The answer to that is no, they're spring loaded and will fall back down.

Well actually quite often a lock turns out to be picked easier to the "wrong
direction" then the direction you're aiming for.
When one direction doesn't work, you should ALWAYS try the
other direction as well !

Once successfully picked in the unwanted direction, you can revert the
situation with a so-called "plug spinner".
This springloaded device will turn the lock so fast that
the springs have no time to push the pins back into their holes.

Result : A picked lock, to the right direction

A plug spinner is also very handy, for a lock that needs
to be rotated more than once to fully unlock.
Otherwise you would need to re-pick it for every rotation.

Talking of plug spinners dont get one of the budget ones you wind up and just release, try to get one where you set the spring up and it doesnt release till a button is pushed.
I say this after spending ages on a lock that i eventually picked the wrong way only for a cheap plug spinner to get me back to square one as it didnt work properly.Do you think i could pick this lock again !! Absolute nightmare senario it was with a customer who was watching everything as well.
Pay a bit more for a better one and never have this problem as you can line it up easily with the center of the keyway to spin it nicely.

Plug spinners are an important tool for the locksmithing trade, although locksmiths often deny usings spinners often, they use them quite regularly. Also i would suggest a Rytan compact spinner, because of the size it can fit in the pick case and the cost leaves some more for somthing else, and ofcourse, just ask varjeal about the quality. Im soon to order a rytan compact because my big rytan orginal rip off doesnt fit in my case.
