When you say cheap, how much are we talking?

You're not gonna find anything for under 20 plus postage... you can get the likes of goso or sha-lon for under 30, but they're not very good. Picks will last a lifetime if you treat them right, but the quality of the steel is important so it's worth spending extra on a decent set. After all you're only gonna have to buy them once. You could definately make a set for under 20 though, and a lot of the homebrewed goodness is superior to the mass produced stuff. Check out the tutorials on the site here, you'll also find templates so you can make exactly what you want.

To the OP. Find a vendor who has what you want and accepts credit cards over the phone. Setup you order so when your ready to pay, your mom can get on the phone and give them her credit card information. By providing the information to the vendor by voice on landline, you and you mom don't need to send her information over the internet- I believe you said that was her concern. By all means, be honest with her. Its' the right thing and will make life easier.

Picks you make are usually going to be better than what you can buy, especially for $20. I don't remember whether Ken takes paypal, but you can get a couple of nice Peterson picks for under $20 shipped. Or, ask for a set in the BST section and maybe someone will sell you their spare Southords for that much. Both are decent brands.

if you can hardly afford a basic pick set, how are you going to buy locks to practice on? and I think everyone reading this knows what road I'm going down with that question. Squelchtone

Add your location so other members know where you are and when you meet the requirements post a wanted add in B/S/T.
Someone may be nearby who can help you out

There are no requirements for wanted ads, just post one. And since you're under 18, I would say get your mom's permission before adding your location.

i've never owned a commercial pick set. i make all of mine from wiper blade inserts and hacksaw blades. if you make your own picks then you've actually got an advantage because once you get good at it you can make basically anything you need. if you have a lock that none of you picks are working on, you will have the knowledge and ability to be able to create a new one that may work on it.

You really got to calm down and relax dude. Make your own picks. I recall you trying to "convince me" to sell you some picks for 50 cents last week, shipping included. But suddenly, you have lots of $$$$ and 5. something in your paypal? Your story is flawed. Ask your parents to purchase you some lockpicks, probably the best idea seeing how young you are. You will want your parents permission for this hobby at your age.
