Homemade Bramah pick

Here's a picture of an 8 in 1 pick I made for Bramah (antique locks) some time ago. Made from Stainless steel and lever spring steel.



Just thought it might be of interest.

I've never gotten a chance to play with a Bramah... you may have just inspired me to get out and buy one.

There are few locks quite as expensive, so just be sitting down when you get a price !

They do pop up on ebay from time to time though.

You are truly gifted at tool making (and have loads more wuippment than most on here by the looks of things).

What are the rods sticking out of the side for? Do they adjust the tension/force applied to the sliders/discs in the lock?

How quick can you achieve an opening with this pick?

Yes, homemade.

The are M3 thread machine screws to allow each feeler to be locked in position when the gate in the slider has been found.

For the size of lock this tool was made for, opening times varied from around 20 minutes to an hour or so.

I had also made 4, 5, 6 & 7 slide versions. That is the real problem with very old Bramah's there are so many slightl different sizes and each one requires a different tool. I gave all these tools to another lock collector when I left the UK, but have them on my ' to do ' list to make more.

I could make a similair design for the current Bramah lock, it would be bloody expensive though !
