But today my girlfriend and I (my girlfriend) were feeling a bit crafty and decided to start to make some Sculpey handles.
But since we're never home (Navy...
) and it takes a lot of work to make a nice handle, we decided to make a mold. after we baked the Sculpey handle, we did some basic shaping with 60grit sandpaper since this one was made so we could make the mold. The rest of them will be sanded and polished better. So we got some of this Amazing Mold Putty from Michael's and used about a 1" ball of each color (just followed the instructions ^^) and completely covered the Sculpey handle and let it sit for a few hours to ensure 100% solidity.
We then cut it open to reveal the mold and it made a perfect impression of the handle and pick. It's flexible yet strong enough for us to shove clay in there to make more handles. You can also bake this so once you put the clay in you can bake it in the mold.
And here's the final product:
Start to finish, it probably took us like 4 hours including making the original handle. The thing of putty would probably make four molds all together. The one package of Sculpey we used would probably make ~3 handles. Going to see how the Fimo does next time...
Cost: $20 for the putty, and about $2.50 for the Sculpey.
And you're done. It's elementary.
