When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Heres a new hook i made with a high tech handle. Ive had these colored circuit boards for awhile and been wanting to make something with them- and here it is. This a first draft, i might refine it a bit more. It has good response and i think i like the look. Note: I strongly suggest using a respirator if you do this kind of cutting, filing, or carving. The boards i have are lead free but my throat and lungs still feel a bit gakked hours after making this one pick (obviously i did NOT use protection ) Nuff talk:

Very original! You may add a led on the tip and a small button battery to the back Let us know how's the feedback, circuit boards are very thin and may not be comfortable for long picking sessions. Cheers

thanks you guys! Ive got a few more colors to use which will be coming up-hopefully soon.
@femurat: the boards are thin, but i have two of them with the pick sandwiched between. I may slightly round the edges but right now its as comfortable as the southord in the picture.

At my work we make circuit boards that range from paper thin to 1/2"thick, so you would easily be able to find a thickness that was conformable. This is a very awesome idea and I have worked with circuit boards for years now and I have never thought of using them for anything like this before. thank you for sharing. how smooth where you able to get the edges? it seems like the traces would stick and the pads that have the solder on them would also stick out. have you thought of encasing the handle in a clear acrylic? we use it at my work for handling samples and you can get that stuff super smooth with a buffer. Yes do wear at least a dust mask when cutting or grinding/ filing.. the pre-preg that laminates the circuit boards layers together can be made from a very nasty resin or even a fiber glass type of material, and the soldermask on the outside can be toxic also.

I like the look. Tron-y.
Im surprised they are comfortable though, my hands are always ruined after working with electronics.

Sure, it's a sandwich, so the thickness is more than doubled. Well I guess that it's thick enough to be comfortable Hey Darkness1569, I didn't know there were so thick circuit boards. Why don't you make one 1/4" thick with a slot cut inside it, ratyoke stile? You could make some holes trough the pick and sides, and solder small metal wires to keep it together. That would be even cooler than rivets! Cheers

@femurat I don’t make the boards, I fix the equipment when a operator breaks it and can't fix it themselves. Our shop is somewhere around 275,000 sq ft. so it would be really hard to get a board through all of that with no one noticing, and I would like to keep my job. lol

Darkness1569, did I say "take the board without permission"? I understood you made the boards, and tough you could ask your boss to have a couple of scrap pieces. Nevermind.

@femurat LOL I misunderstood you sorry, I thought you were saying to design and make boards for it. Sadly our scrap boards cannot leave the company site because of customers requirements and all scrap boards are counted and kept track of so I can't take any.

No problem I'm sure we can find some nice boards inside an old PC before taking it to the waste dump (the place where they recycle electronic devices, not the side of the road). Cheers

so just to clarify: The boards i started with were 1/16", so the two end up being 1/8" alltogether with a layer of clear epoxy bonding it all. As to the sides being rough on the hands- not at all, i chose the piece with that in mind as well as pattern. The edges cleaned up pretty nice, the traces are totally smooth. I am interested in doing the clear acrylic coat, i thought that would be pretty sweet as i could utilize an even more interesting bit of board. While i would really like to do that, i'm pretty lazy and will likely not get around to that level . ..... ...if i do though, yall will be the first to know!!!!!!
