New Pagoda picks from SO

Go the new set of Pagoda picks offered by SO today. They seem really well manufactured, maybe even more so than most of the SO picks I have gotten.
Have not yet had a chance to get them into a lock yet but will soon.

Still think I'd rather use Rai's Bogota picks, of which these appear to be a cheap imitation. Go to www.serepick.com, click on Custom Tools. You can see just how much more he sands and polishes his tools. The glide easily in and out of locks. He also has some tutorials online on how to make them.

Still, hope you enjoy them. Sand and polish them, and they should work nicely!

I have held some of Rais picks in my hand and I have a set of Serepick Ti Bogotas, I use them often. Since I saw this set for sale, copying Rais design, I wanted to get a set and check them out. I do believe that they may benefit from some polishing but they have a nice finish on them already. Ill see how they work then decide on if they need more work or if they go in the "neat but not very useful" collection along with my Dino picks and magic keys.

Just a couple days before the original post they called their picks "Bogotas".
Maybe someone informed them that their picks are far for Bogotas, and they chanced the name to Pagodas.
To me Pagoda sound like a Soviet era tracktor.

Thanks for catching that! The page source code still has the word Bogota in it.. and google search for Southord Bogota shows the cached page title.

I guess I'm done recommending SO to people. Not only is this shady, but those are extremely poor knockoffs. The handles might be well manufactured, but the rest of the picks look simultaneously too thick AND too weak in the back cuts. Not sure how they even accomplished that.

EDIT...aaaaand I just told all of the Denver Locksport people to steer clear of SO as well.

I wonder if they are stepping on other toes with this name. There is a lock called "Pagoda". I dont think rakes would pick it tho.

Is it just me or does it look like the rear peaks on these picks are to long to fit in the key way? Does any one else see this too? If so what good are they for picking are they just for looks? Maybe im getting old.

I have had a couple of sets of these for some time, I had to shave them down
a bit to make them work like they should in most locks.

I used a diamond coated steel rod ( knife sharpener )
and some sand paper to reduce and polish them.

As to their finish, the edges of the handles are quite sharp and uncomfortable. While waiting for my Raimundo-made Bogotas (he's a little backed up with orders) I got several of these, and after several hours with them I decided enough was enough and picked up a can of Plasti Dip to coat the handles.

I have a 15 year-old or so 32-pick SouthOrd set, and they're nowhere near as uncomfortable as these, even when they were new. In fact, the edges are quite well-finished.
