Open cylinders with unusual means (toilet paper tube)

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Open cylinders with unusual means (toilet paper tube)

This is not just a joke. (but you can laugh  )

I recently imagined to make a demonstration of self-printing using a material which can change the properties after introduced.

Thanks a lot, I'm not a beginner in lock picking so I have no merit.

On the same theme can be made Hobbs hooks for cheap

That is one of the best examples of self impressioning I've ever seen. Thank you for sharing the technique.

Now that's a neat trick. Does the water soften the toilet paper roll enough for the pins to impression, or does it swell and lift the pins?

When the paper is wet you can press the pins out.
The method is not perfect. Water has no place in a cylinder.
But it works. And easily removed with a paper fan.

I'm looking for simple and universal methods openings.

But I'm still looking for other materials ...

Very nice videos. The cardboard tube method reminds me of when Sargent Keso locks first came out. The kids at the school soaked pop sickle sticks in water for a long time stick them in the lock wiggle it for a few minutes the locks were open. Had to go remove many that got broken off in the locks.

I had a think about your video today and tried to think of a material that would work well. Have you tried "Foamex" board? Its what they use for display graphics and photo presentations. It is 2 thin sheets of PVC, with a filling of dense polystyrene foam. It dents easily and does not spring back, so may work well for self impressioning. I know you are in france but you will be able to find something similar there. This is the sort of material im think about.... although in this case its not a sandwich construction, just dense PVC foam....

I tested many different materials and foams. With some success but not enough.

I am looking for a material whose properties can be changed once in the cylinder.

The materials must be hard and become soft after a chemical or electrical or other reaction.

Work with temperature is possible, but not on a cylinder mounted on a door.

But if it's easy, it's not funny

Have you thought of Pykrete? You can make it out of toilet paper or paper towel instead of traditional sawdust. Once frozen, it is very hard and can even be planed like a piece of wood. Once it melts it is like a bunch of wet paper. This would start hard and become soft after a change in temperature (best leave that statement in context.) Couldn't a syringe with hot water be used to effect the change even on a cylinder mounted in a door? I guess it would be rather messy to leave a bunch of wet wood pulp in the cylinder :? .Thanks for sharing, I particularly enjoyed the music in the background.

Very good idea. I did not know I'm going to experiment.
A locksmith use a spray to cool the material they need.
Like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EukG92Evw3Q
It can keep a paste and cool when it needs.

It may also be possible with fat or oil products.

The cleaning of the cylinder is a problem but the locksmith can disassemble. This is the opening that is most important.

Thank you for your help :D

Maybe poster board would work or possibly electrical tape by shoving it in the lock and letting it sit becausethe pins would over time make dents in the rubbery tape. Also thin slices of eraser could work.
