Anyone tried ? Instamorph moldable plastic

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Anyone tried ? Instamorph moldable plastic

Postby Abuckeye » 15 Nov 2013 4:12

I've recently acquired INSTAMORPH. It's a plastic that gets malleable at a low temp (140 deg. Fah.). Upon the material cooling down to room temp it returns to solid. You can probably imagine the unlimited uses for this. Instamorph is reusable. If you mess up, heat it up again and reshape.
I purchased 2lbs. for 40$ US. Off Amazon. I've made plug followers, pick handles, nuts, screws, sockets, wrenches, clips, ETC. I am amazed at this product and its unlimited possibilities. I can only imagine what some of you can do with it!!!
Has anyone ever used this or something similar?
What have you made out of it?
Never stick your pick in another's keyhole without permission!!

I read about it in Make Magazine about a year or two ago. Looks really impressive, I've been wanting to give it a go for a long time now.

I have this stuff too. The scientific name is polycaprolactone, or just PCL plastic. All the other names, instamorph, polymorph etc.. are brand names. It's strength and flexibility is comparable to nylon. It's great for quick fixes and rapid prototyping. I haven't found uses for lockpicking yet. It shrinks slightly when cooling, wich limits it's use, and I think it's too expensive to make pickhandles from. Great stuff to have around, though, if you're into making things. It's like the gaffer tape of plastics.

Check out corian. It becomes mold able at 325 and then hardens to stone. It is commonly used to make countertops. I acquired some scraps and will be using them for handles.
