A way to carry sandpaper

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

A way to carry sandpaper

Postby cuttinedge1 » 6 Apr 2014 19:24

One thing I have noticed is when I use a pick for a long time it starts to get scratched. On way I have found to remedy this problem is carrying sandpaper. I you take a small square of high grit sand paper and cut a piece of it you can roll it up and put it in a straw. If you want to keep it dry you can pinch the ends with pliers leaving a little sticking out and melt the end with a lighter sealing the straw. These are very compact and fit right in your pick case.

Nice tip, but don't think I could fit another tension wrench, let alone a segment of straw, into my daily pick kit! :?

So folding a square of 400 or 600 grit sand paper with the rough parts in and the soft side out and putting it in my wallet next to my credit cards is not a good idea?

Correct. That is a very bad idea. With the rough side folded against itself it can wear itself out by simply rubbing against itself. It can also fall out of your wallet easily if the rough side is folded in.

The proper way is to fold the paper with the rough side out, preferably between the back sides of 2 credit cards. This way the rough side will not wear off the numbers on the front of your cards as you slide them in and out of your wallet and the friction will also help keep the paper from falling out of your wallet.

I hope that clears this up for you.

I may end up folding the sandpaper around a condom to protect it.

If you roll it tightly you can fit some into those small coffee straws
