Vertical pick case?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Vertical pick case?

Postby NinjaLlama » 20 Jun 2014 9:39

Has anyone made a case similar to a drill bit case or router bit case? The kind that the tools lie flat when the box is closed but when you open it all the tool racks raise up so you can see all the ends. I was thinking about trying something like this and am wondering if anyone has any experience or ideas to share.

That's a novel concept, I like it! If you know anyone with a 3D printer, you could probably print the individual leaves that would hold the tools, and then fashion your hinge arms with thin steel and mount with screws. The case you are thinking of is commonly called a drill index. A pick index is a great idea, run with it!

Here's a pick set with such a case: http://www.zieh-fix.com/shop/contents/e ... -Sets.html

That is pretty much exactly what I had envisioned making.

I'd go for a slightly different design where you can pick them up by the handle, not the tip (dirty fingers).
Also consider there might be some noise if you're planning to carry it with you.

I was thinking of it more as a desktop display than a mobile case. Just a fancy display when I open the case to choose a pick.

Not mobile, just desktop display? Thanks, man. Now you got ME to an idea: A Magnetic pick holder, just like the magnetic knife holders in the kitchen. It's just an unfinished design to see if it works, quickly made of 4 harddisk magnets and some aluminum lying around. But it works well and after adding some weight, this will find the way to my desktop.

Hey that is a nice clean design and look great! I thought about adding magnets to help stop the picks from shifting when the leaves raised up. I think I want more of a "grand" feeling for mine, like tada!, when I open the case and rows of picks unfold
