When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.
Just recieved a three wave and one wave bogota pair of picks. These are the mass produced versions, not the handmade ones. I have to say I don't see what the big deal is with these guys. They are good picks, but don't seem to really live up to their reputation as wonder picks. Honesty I find pagoda picks to be far more useful than these guys.
Could this just be because they are not the handmade version? Would a little smoothing of the edges with sand paper make a huge difference? The ones I have are effective on many basic locks, but for anything more advanced I would just use a standard short hook.
Is there some special method to using these guys I don't know about?

Sounds like they are working just fine. That's what they are supposed to do, open a large percentage of crappy locks really quickly. And since most people buy crappy locks, it works out great.
I don't think they were ever touted to work on advanced locks by anyone. The only time you would rake an advance lock anyway, is to get it into a fast false set and then single pin pick from there.

Yeah... Those picks aren't really made to be super picks. They are just good rakes. They work good with locks that have open keyways. They're good on advanced locks, but they are good at false setting them, which is good because then you can go after those spool security pins after a good raking.
I feel there is a big difference between the handmade versions and the machines versions. I have observed that the handmade versions have sharper points and are polished very smooth. This helps them move much more smoothly in locks. The main advantage for me is that they can be carried easily in your wallet or on your person. I have purchased almost every possible tool from Rai and have been very impressed with how he conducts himself and designs things. Also, I've seen a video of someone opening a medeco cam lock one handed with Bogotas...I think it may have been Squelchtone.
Found this video while looking for the one mentioned above, not sure if I agree with it, any thoughts?
Note: When I mentioned the Medeco lock being picked on handed, I mean that the person in the video used the same hand for tensioning as they did for picking. If anyone can find that video, please let me know! Also, I cannot say that my experience agrees with the video above, the way I pick with bogotas, there is not an issue with binding pins. You've got to make sure you are kind of quickly varying your tension wrench with bogotas, at least that is what works for me.

That would be my video of picking the Medeco cam lock with 1 hand using Raimundo's hand made bogotas
Unfortunately, I took my Youtube channel down because of Google's insistence in making everyone get a stupid Google plus account, so I'll have to figure out a way to share that video again.
YouLuckyFox wrote:Well done. You make it look so easy! Thanks for reshooting that video, Squelchtone , you picked the lock even quicker than you did in the first video.
Thanks, now if I could only relock it faster without the wrench catching like it did, hah! Plus, I may reshoot the video AGAIN because holding the phone and picks so close I realize some people may say that I didn't use just 1 hand so I have to hold the phone farther away next time.
