Making my own picks

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Making my own picks

Postby UnlockingBoredom » 19 Apr 2015 16:33

Well I guess I should have waited until I made some picks to make a post about making them...
I had my wife pick up some bread knives at the local thrift store that are stainless steel and .030 thick (I had her take my micrometer to check them)

I have some pick templates printed out and will cut them out of the paper and glue them to the stainless steel and take my grinder to them to rough shape them. I hope they turn out even half as good looking as BSG's picks... his look awesome!!!

I dont know yet if I will be making them like his with the small tube handle or making them regular and plasti dipping... I guess I will see when I get there. I will be adding pictures as the progress goes.

Happy picking!

Can't wait to see how those picks turn out!!! I recommend going to a Hobby store and buying some small hand files.

I just broke down a old music stand and made some prybars (tension wrenches) out of it.

If you need some more pick templates just PM me.

BSG, I picked up a set of cheap hand files from Lowes. There is no way they will turn out as good as your picks!!
I also had the wife get some thicker knives to make prybars from... I have .040, .045, .050 and .060

Thanks, I will pm you about pick templates..

And boy will she be confused when she tries to find the missing knife (knives). We know nothing, we see nothing, and above all, we say nothing.
