Looking to buy dimple picks

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Looking to buy dimple picks

Postby Korver15 » 26 Jun 2015 20:17

So I decided it's time I invest in some dimple picks. Where have other people gotten theirs? Bosnian Bill did a little series but I was having problems locating the picks he mentioned. Anyone know of any good preferably cheap sets? :)

I have southord and goso. I think they are a little thick and tough to replace when you break your favorite. In the end I wind up using a Peterson deep access diamond (red handle) most of the time. I sharpened the pin facing side of min to help it slide through the chamber. The only time any of the dimple sets get used are for the curved goso, which you could make by bending a diamond.

I recently tried doing the DIY thing with dimple picks. Funny that you mention BosnianBill, because I used his video to guide me. Used the music wire (also known as piano wire). Made some metal handles with an Alan Screw (so I can change out the tips). They work great!

If you are not into the work or simply don't have time Southord is what I used to have. Just to let you know they did all break after about a month and change of working on my dimple pick skills. Perhaps I was to hard on them (I do not have the lightest touch) and I did use them a lot. But it is only going to save you the purchasing of the music wire and a little bit of fabrication time, because my picks form Southord were rough. Sanding took a while (my least favorite part of any fabrication). Usually the stuff you buy needs a bit of work (my experience anyway). I know you are looking to buy some picks, but these are the easiest ones to make. A bend, some heat, a punch, and a cut. Sand and polish. Put in a handle.

When you make it yourself you can design it for yourself.
