is this Majestic lock pick set vendor reputable?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

is this Majestic lock pick set vendor reputable?

Hello,

I've always been a fan of Majestic lock picks, they're one of the first brands I came across when doing research on this hobby years ago. I found a US based website that sells them, but I'd like to know if any of you have purchased from this site and if they are easy to work with and reputable?

Thank you

You can just buy them from Amazon, shipped from an Amazon warehouse in USA. And significantly cheaper prices. They all come from the same Chinese factory anyway, just labelled as different brands. :)

Heres an example but there is plenty more: http://www.amazon.com/Best-Professional ... ZK273WR0AK

It's a nostalgia thing for myself and a friend of mine, it's gotta say Majestic on the handles and case.

I know they're not top shelf quality but I dont want some similar looking off brand either. Looks like http://www.lockpicks.com/13-piece-sprin ... k-set.html has them as well but not great things to say in the description =)

If I can compare these to something else from my past, to me a set of Majestic lock picks is like owning a Raven Arms P25, it might work a few times and might break eventually but it's just a cool relic from the early 80's

I remember those Raven P25 weapons. Not exactly the most reliable weapons ever made. :)

Still have some Majestic picks from 20 years ago. Some guy in New Jersey was selling them a la carte over the phone, got the number on Usenet I think. For locks where there is no need for anything better they are what I reach for.

Maybe it is just me but it seems like junk picks are better at junk locks.

Unless something has changed in the past five years, I'm pretty sure Majestic picks are made in the USA.
Comparable quality to HPC's spring steel picks.

Bought an HPC lifter a few months ago and I think it was inferior to the Majestic lifter I had bought twenty years ago. The HPC seemed thicker, and had a burr from stamping.

First set of picks ever was a plastic-handled set of Pix-Qwiks, handles cracked from age eventually after 30 years, but still work. Was not easy for a kid to aquire picks in those days, just finding where to buy them was hard, then one had to have them sent to the home of a latch key kid if one's parents did not approve of that sort of thing. And no YouTube tutorials.

Yeah, their spring steel picks have so many burrs and sharp edges I felt like I was taking a metal file to the pins every time I use one in a lock (before I learned about sanding picks). I don't know if that's just a normal byproduct of stamping that kind of steel, then not de-burring it, or if their dies are old and wearing out, or what it is.

They're fairly strong picks, and you have the choice of two thicknesses in the spring steel. If you go with their 2000 Series stainless steel picks those give you a third and thinner option, at .022" if I remember right, but they seem slightly easier to bend than the spring steel which is comparable to Majestic. Now I'm not saying the stainless ones are EASY to bend, they're good quality picks, but I think the steel just isn't as rigid as the spring steel. More than just a reflection of the fact that they're fractionally thinner.

I know where you're coming from there. During pre-internet days I made my first crude lockpicks and go nowhere with them. Once I learned what a tension wrench was, it finally clicked in my head. I made one, and some newer, better picks then finally started making progress. This was during early BBS days. If only I'd known at the time that there was some info on the topic to be found there. If you knew where to look.

You didn't grow up in the 80's, or earlier, if you did not at least one time check if lock picking was in the encyclopedia.

I did that! I first learned lockpicking from a Bill Phillips book from the public library.
