The ToK Wrench Template you have been waiting for

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

The ToK Wrench Template you have been waiting for

Postby Ian_425 » 19 Sep 2016 0:20

This template is a PDF. Print it off on standard 8.5 x 11 paper and everything is already sized. Cut out the templates, or however you want to use them. I added a couple of ruler lines to the template so you can verify the sizes after printing if you want to.

Hope you enjoy them!

So are these your design or a commercially available model such as Peterson or Sparrows?

They do look like the Sparrow versions to me.. Plus ever since I have gone down the InfoSec Rabbit hole .. I am reluctant to download any PDF files from someone I don't know or trust..

They are the Sparrows variety. I don't have the Peterson's, but if I get them, I will create that template as well. If you are worried about downloading it, most anti-viruses are capable of scanning items before you download them.

I'm more worried about putting Michael's (Sparrows) and Ken's (Peterson) products online as templates. It's bound to happen in our hobby and do it yourselfers always want some fresh templates, but I want to make sure we also support the companies that make our hobby possible by buying their produts and not pirating them. The guys who make these tools are real people who also have to pay the rent and buy groceries, so let me mull it over as to what our policy is on this.

Older pick designs that have been around for 25-50 years have obviously been floating around long enough to have made their money so I don't see an issue with a half diamond or hook pick template floating around, but new(ish) products should have a chance to be sold before becoming a freebie. There is of course something to be said about Sparrows design looking an awful lot like Peterson's design, so I understand that argument as well.

Hope that makes sense and the template can stay up right now as I think it over.

It makes very good sense, but in all honesty my goal here was not to supplement what Sparrows makes, but what they don't make. I bought these because I wanted a set of them, but created the template because I wanted a couple of additional wrenches in thicknesses not made by Sparrows. I really like these wrenches and gladly support Sparrows, I placed an order with them just two weeks ago. I apologize if it seems like I was trying to cut the business out of the mix, if they made the other thicknesses I wanted, I would have bought those as well.

I can remove the template if you feel it is an issue and sketch out some of my own to replace it with.

I am really not trying to cause issues, I was just trying to be a good community member and help other forum members have a starting place to create the customized tools they need in their kits.

Sorry for the hassle,

Ian

Making your own for custom thickness is a plenty good reason actually. I spoke with Michael from Sparrows and his 5 wrenches are only $12 dollars, so if someone prefers to spend all day making their own wrenches from a template because they're frugal or a home brew kind of hobbyist, then its no skin off his back.

And for those of us in the US, it is only about $8 USD after the currency conversion. Great deal on these wrenches.
