What type of lock picks should I buy for padlocks?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

What type of lock picks should I buy for padlocks?

I'd like to buy from sparrow because I love their design with most things. Also looking for something easily portable so I can practice on the go as well. Looking to practice on combination padlocks of different types, dial padlocks, and key entry padlocks.

Also does anyone have experience with the sparrow tension wheel? How is it compared to other tension tools? I really fancy it but if it's crap there's no point.

There are lockpicks for special purposes. For now just get any lockpickset, even the crappy Chinese picks will do.

"Sparrow tension wheel" is at the moment not a tool you should worry about.

Sparrows has lots of different sets, anyone will do really. It might be best to start small with this for instance: https://www.sparrowslockpicks.com/kick_start_p/s0.htm
Then you can add individual picks when you see the need for it. You might want some "top of keyway"-wrenches as well, for instance: https://www.sparrowslockpicks.com/product_p/ft5k.htm
I haven't used the tension wheel, but I don't think you need that. (It requires the lock to be mounted or in a vice btw.)

Combination locks is a completely different matter and doesn't require "picks" as such, but this probe is useful for some locks: https://www.sparrowslockpicks.com/produ ... ecoder.htm
