When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site. I'm just getting started picking. I'm waiting for my new pickset I ordered online, but I couldn't wait to try my "atlas" deadbolt I bought to practice on. I removed all but two pins and went to work with a bent keyring that the keys came on. In no time I had opened the lock. I can't quite get it with three, but I'm having fun and can't wait to try more with my real picks!

Congrats! You'll find that a good set of tools will help very much. While you're waiting, you can hunt around the house for items that will work as improvised tools. Try searching this site for "improvised tools" and you'll find some more info.
Good luck, and happy picking!

I've picked *some* six pin locks. well, it for me is trying a lot of locks and using a bunch of feeling picks.
Good luck to you

i have heard that fish hooks work descently well. don't have the flimsyness of paper clips and could also make a descent tension wrench if bent right.
just my two cents
What if I pick "Pandora's Box"?

I have been trying to make picks out of fishing hooks but it was no big success. Maybe cuz the hooks i found was to big or something. It was, however, much better than picking with paperclips, but i think you should spend your time on bying a grinder tool and some hacksawblades instead!

With the hooks you will want a descently big one but may need to hit it with a hammer to flatten it for the keyway. Tis always fun to hit stuff some times anyway.
Nothing beats a pick though. Specially a hald diamond that is my fav pick anyway.
And as to buying a grinder... i am a poor poor college student and about to become and even poorer grad student.
What if I pick "Pandora's Box"?
