Lock pick sets

I made most of my picks and they all snap so i want to get a pick set for 30.00 or under. I was looking at the PXS-14 and i wonder if that is any good any suggestions.

Just a couple of things Builder, first go ahead and fill out at least the country in your profile. This is an international site and the best place to buy picks in Norway may not be the same as Detroit ;-)

Also there is a ton of stuff on this site. Use the SEARCH button and plug in PXS-14.

Just quickly, I am not a big fan of the non-handled (handleless?) Southord. The plastic sleeves are included because the non-handled picks are (literally) a pain to work with. However the plastic dampens the feel to your hand (useful when picking). The PXS-14 is a nice selection of picks and tension wrenches (you will need more than one wrench, it has to fit the keyway too), however some war worthless (like the snowman double ball and you get two duplicate snake rakes). I like the Southord Euro (Slim Line) picks 'with handles'. Look at the MPXS-08 (handled) or the C801 (slim line).

Builder,

What were your picks made of? Are you just starting off? Generally, when I hear that someone has broken a pick, or bent a wrench it was because they were using way to much pressure.

As for the picks, I would definitely side with Grudge on the Slimline set and the wider handles. You may also want to check out Petersons line of picks, they seem a bit "tougher" than the Southords, and they can be ordered individually or in sets (comes down to personal preference really).

good luck

I never have found a use for it. It seems to work OK on some cheap wafer locks (but nothing a snake rake won't do). Of course I never touch cars, maybe it might work well there but I have never heard anyone speaking of the greatness of the snowman. If you know of a use, I am ready to dig it out and try it.

i've found it to work a little faster in most cases than the single ball, and it's much less likely to damage a wafer lock than a standard rake, also the standard rake will pick one side different than the other whereas if you rock the double ball right, it'll get both sides pretty evenly. hope this helps! happy picking.
